Michigamme Shores Campground, Michigamme Township, MI

Tuesday, June 24

It rained most of our drive from St. Ignace to Michigamme TWP.
This is the start of our drive.  It is slightly foggy and slightly hilly.  Beautiful!
We kept seeing road signs like this one usually when we were getting close to towns.  We don't see signs like this in Texas or anywhere in the south.
We also saw these signs. I've not seen this sign before but suppose they could be anywhere.
At one point the fog got fairly thick.  It did not last a long distance.
This campground is on the shore of Michigamme Lake.
We are parked in the back part of the campground on a little hill.  There a several other RVs as you drive into the park and several more along the shore.  We are the only ones on the hill.
The building in the background is the bath house and laundry facilities.
This is our view out the front window; more camp sites on the hill.
This view is thru some campsites to the beach and playground.
Here is the beach area.  The playground is to the right.  See below.
Thru the playground equipment you can see a small boat dock.  This is a fairly large lake.
After looking around the campground we drove across the street to this hiking trail.  It took us almost an hour to drive 8 miles because the road was so rough.  We never got to the head of the hiking trail and it was time to head back to the campsite because we had some things we needed to get done today.

The following 4 pictures are of the Peshekee River that crisscrossed from one side of the road to the other. The Peshekee River is 31.1-mile-long. It is a tributary of Lake Michigamme, and its waters flow via the Michigamme River and the Menominee River to Lake Michigan.

This was an absolutely gorgeous drive!
We did not drive across this bridge; however it was supported by steel girders as you see in the picture below.
Seeing thru the bridge to the water was a little unnerving.

We also got to see this young moose cross the road.  We stopped and hoped we would see its mother, but we never did.
More beautiful pictures of the river.  It just went on and on being so beautiful.  We kept expecting to see moose or bear at the rivers edge, but we did not.

There is an active train track running right thru the middle of the campground.  Shortly before dinner, we heard a train whistle.  Tic took off with the camera and got the following shots.

We asked about the train track while we were checking in.  We were told the train only came thru once a day; one direction one day and the other direction the next day.  We do not expect to hear any more trains today.  This one had about 50 rail cars and it moved through the campground at a fast walking pace, not picking up speed until it was past us.

The temperature got up to 68 today and is supposed to get down to upper 40s tonight. :-)

We are only 1.5 hours from our next destination of Houghton, MI.  We plan to take it easy in the morning.  We will be there 2 weeks so will have lots of time to explore.
