Dawson City, YT Part 2

Sunday, June 25, 2017

Well my effort yesterday to catch up on my blog did not go well.  The internet at the library was extremely slow.  It took me 2 hours to do that post.  So now it is July 1 and 9pm at night. Hopefully I can get this post completed tonight.

I'm going to start with our drive to Dawson City.

Here we are driving along side the Yukon River.

One of our stops was at Big Jonathan House.  It was closed so we only got to see stuff from the outside.

This is the back of the Jonathan House.

This is the front of the Jonathan House.

We are overlooking the Stewart River Bridge.

We finally made it to Dawson City.  It was a long 4 hour day for us.
This was our site at Dawson City RV Park & Campground. All the sites here are very tight.  We arrived between rain storms.  It was pretty muddy.

We decided to drove around town while it was not raining. The way the clouds are coming down over the mountain is pretty.

This is a monument to all the miners who came to this area.

Anyone could schedule a ride on the Klondike Spirit paddlewheel.  We just took pictures as it was headed down river.

This is the ferry we will be taking in the morning to cross the Yukon River as we head to Chicken, AK.

This is the SS Keno another sternwheeler that used to travel between Whitehorse, YT and Dawson City, YT carrying supplies and mined ores.  In a previous post I talked about the SS Klondike II we saw in Whitehorse, YT.

The pictures from here to the end of the post are taken from the top of Midnight Dome Hill.  We went up after dinner and after the rain stopped so it was about 9pm.
Here we are looking down on the Yukon River.

This bench was at the very top of the hill. The picture below is our selfie while sitting on this bench.

This is the confluence of the Klondike River flowing into the Yukon River.  As you can tell it there were a lot of low clouds.

Above is most of the town of Dawson City.

From Midnight Dome Tic zoomed in on the SS Keno above and the City Library and School below. The library & school are all in one building.

This is another zoom-in on Dawson City.  The view from Midnight Dome was magnificent.

It started sprinkling again so we decided it was time to go home.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a mostly sunny day.
