Fort Raleigh on Roanoke Island of the NC Outer Banks

After running some errands on Tuesday we decided to head to the outer banks "OBX" again.  We wanted to see Fort Raleigh on Roanoke Island.
On the way we crossed the waters to the OBX and Tic saw these clouds building.  He got this picture.  It shows more definition of the cloulds than he thought it would. The clouds were beautiful.
We got there about 3:30 pm.  In the visitor center we watched a short video about this site.   Apparently, this site was not only the first landing of a ship from England which established Fort Raleigh, but also was part of the "Underground Railroad".  Virginia Dare was the "first baby" to be born in America.  She was born to the first colonists governor's daughter.
Here is more about the Underground Railroad.  We walked the nature trail and ended up at the Elizabethan Garden.
It cost $9 per person at the senior rate.  We decided to skip it.
This is a look at a small part of the garden looking thru one gate.
We saw a lot of grey squirrels.  This one was trying to hide from us.

We left here and wanted to go see the Pea Island Rescue Visitor Center and the Island Farm.  Both closed at 4 pm.  We were disappointed that we missed out.  It surprised us they closed so early since this area thrives on its visitors.

This apartment/condo building also had boat parking.  There were so many large boats.  See more below.
Boat parking and these are not small boats.  It was raining outside so Tic took the picture from inside the Jeep.
As we were going from Roanoke Island to the OBX and the sun was shining on this island of houses. The picture does not do the view justice.
