Hollywood, SC

We drove another 3 hrs and got to Lake Aire RV Park in Hollywood, SC just a little south & east of Charleston.  Park had gravel roads, but grass parking spots.  With all the rain they had just a few days ago our site was a little muddy, but not gushy at all.  We did not have any problem pulling in or out.  With our Passport America it cost us $25.60 for the night.  There was one restroom facility for the whole park, but both the men and women had 6 toilets and 3 showers.  It was old but very clean.

From the back after the awning was opened.  It was lovely temperatures and we opened all the windows.  Very nice.

We walked around the park and found this pond with a hammock to relax in.

Then we found another pond with tent camping sites around it.

 We crossed the waterway at Charleston over this big bridge.  It was long.

Headed down the other side.  It just keeps going.

Closer to the end of the bridge.  Then on we go to Lakewood Campgrounds at Myrtle Beach, SC.  Supposed to be a 2 hr drive.

Jesup, GA

We arrived at our next stop, Mossy Oaks RV Park, near Jesup, GA about 12:30pm edt.  We had to travel down a narrow 2 lane road for about 5 miles, but it is worth it.  It is extremely peaceful.  No road noise, slight breeze and mid 70's outside.  We have full hook up in a pull-thru spot for $15/nite using Passport America.  We would recommend this place.

Dusty is washing the bugs off the windshield and front of the coach.  She does this shortly after every stop.  She says the bugs are easier to get off then.

 

This time Dusty got Tic taking a nap.  This life is really rough. 

After dinner we took a walk and found this pond that had a walking bridge across to a small island.
We were told to look for bull frog tadpoles.  Here are the first few we saw.  You can even see legs one one of them.

This a a bunch of tadpoles we saw just under the water. There were hundreds of tadpoles all along the edges of the pond.

 On one side of the pond was this large wild rose bush.

The roses were beautiful.

Down another road, we saw a dogwood tree in bloom.

Albany, GA

Almost half the drive from Styx River Resort in AL to Albany RV Resort in GA was on I-10 headed east.  Then we turned north on FL state hwy 77.  That is when it really got beautiful.  The back roads are interesting and different from the interstate.  We passed thru areas that obviously had gotten lots of rain and probably flash flooding.  The ditches were full on both sides of the roads.  The rivers we crossed were all over their banks. Dusty failed to take pictures.  She was busy gawking and didn't think about taking pictures.

The GPS had us heading south towards Albany RV Resort. Then we saw the sign and it was the side of the road heading north. 

Then the GPS told us to make a u-turn.  Are you kidding me?? Make a u-turn in a 40 ft coach towing a Jeep???  We could NOT make a u-turn so turned left on a road just after the RV park with the hopes that we could turn around somewhere.  Along the way workers had the traffic temporarily stopped.

It did not take long and we were on our way.  However turning around was never an option.  The GPS finally figured out where we were and started giving us what seemed to be valid directions.  SURPRISE we were directed to turn onto a road that was closed for construction about 100 yards after we turned onto it.  We finally gave up and disconnected the Jeep.  Tic was able to turn the coach around and we went back the way we came so we ended up on the correct side of the road to be able to turn into the park.  With all this extra driving it took an extra hour.

 It is a pretty park with gravel roads and concrete parking pads.  That was nice.  There are only 2 showers for the whole park.  Office closed a 5 pm and could not even get into the lobby.  WiFi is working great.  Cost with FMCA discount was $34/nite.   There is also a pretty little pond with ducks and geese.  We walked the park.  It is a wonderful 73 degrees.  It is supposed to drop to upper 40's tonight.  Will be wonderful sleeping!

 After dinner Dusty fell asleep on the couch and Tic caught it.

We will only stay tonight.  Headed to Jesup GA tomorrow.

Gulf State Park at Gulf Shores, AL

Today was our excursion day.  We went to Gulf State Park at Gulf Shores, AL.  It is huge and a really cool place with lots of RV parking and many activities.  It cost us $1 to drive thru the park and walk around.  We were immediately greeted by this friendly sheriff.

After we drove thru all the RV camp sites, we went towards the Nature Center.  In that same parking lot was the gift shop, laundry, bicycle rentals, amphitheater, nature center, and swimming pool.

This is the pavilion with the gift shop, laundry, bicycle rentals and picnic tables.  Behind this building, was a walkway around the enclosed water.

We did not get a picture of the wading pool for the young ones.  Very nice facility!

This is the nature center.  There was a live opossum, baby alligators, tree frogs, various lizards and several kinds of snakes.  One of the employees was holding the opossum for the kids to pat.  Later an employee got a snake out for some girls to hold.  See below.

 Below are some martin bird houses with gourd houses also that were just outside the nature center.

After we left the nature center, we drove to the fishing pier that extended out into the gulf.  The following are all pictures while walking out to the end of the pier.

Looking westward.  Kids playing in the surf.  I think this is their spring break week.  There were lots of school aged kids around.

Sometimes the waves would break and spray.  Overall the waters were calm though.  We had to wait to get this picture.

Several pelicans were just floating around waiting for fish.

Tic got pictures of some flying just on top of the water.  They are beautiful.

At the end of the pier were some serious fishermen and their gear.

We watched the fish below fighting as he was reeled in.  The fish is belly up and puffed up so looks really funny.  You can see the net they used to bring the fish up.

The fishing was really good.  The man below caught his limit.

 On the way off the pier, a lady volunteered to take our picture.  Aren't we a cute couple?

It was nearly one o'clock and we were hungry.  We found Ribs & Reds and had lunch there.

We shared a peanut butter pie for dessert.  It was REALLY good.

We drove home after eating, stopping to shop at Wal-Mart and Camping World.  We were not sure what might be available for the next couple of days.  It was a fun day.
I still feel like I'm on vacation.  I don't think this life style will seem real until we leave Myrtle Beach, SC after being with the grandkids.
