Jack Sisemore RV Museum in Amarillo, TX

Friday, October 23, 2015

After arriving at Amarillo, we set up and had lunch.  By that time it was already 3pm.  We decided to go to an RV Museum here in Amarillo.

The museum was as much fun as this sign looks.

This was our first view as we walked into the museum.

This is a 1941 Westcraft Trailer with a very rare trolley roof.

This a view inside the Westcraft.  Westcraft produced top of the line trailers during the 1940s & 1950s.

This 1936 Alma is original and never was even restored.  It was stored in a barn.

Look at all the Harley's in such great condition.  There were many Harleys and Bultaco motorcycles throughout the museum.

This 1948 Flxible Bus is the one used by the Gornike family in the Robin Williams movie "RV".

This is inside the Gornike family bus.  That is a fun movie.  We have watched it several times.

This is a 1975 FMC.  The interesting thing about FMCs is that FMC stands for Food Machinery Corporation.  The owner got into making many various items including military vehicles & motorhomes.

This 1953 Fleetwood is one of the first Fleetwood ever built.

This 1955 Airstream has much of its original equipment including the original curtains and bedspread.

This 1975 Itasca is serial #1 making it the first Itasca ever built.  It was actually a prototype for the Itasca and only has 6000 miles on it.

This is a 1966 Kenskill.  It has a blue shower, stove and sink.

This is a 1976 Argosy Airstream.  It was reconditioned and repainted with red, white & blue stripes in honor of veterans.

This 1970 Avion pickup camper.  It is one of the last pickup campers ever made by the Avion Company.

Interesting looking.  See more motorcycles?

Look!  We even found Superman's changing room.

This picture doesn't show very well, but instead of a dial, there are push buttons for the numbers.

Look at this wall mounted Snap-on tool chest.  There were not any tools in it though.

This is a 1946 Tear Drop Kit.  We've seen these same looking Tear Drop campers as we have travelled.

How many people remember these Koolair Air Conditioners?  In June of 1941 it was being sold for $12.85.

This trailer was modified to be a display case for various camping supplies in the lobby of the building.  The other side of the trailer looked the same.

It was a very interesting visit.  We were allowed to go inside all the campers.  It was lots of fun!  Glad we found this museum.

Amarillo, TX

Today we will be back in Texas for the first time in almost a year.

Wow leaving New Mexico after being there almost a month.

Wow, we are back in Texas!  And a beautiful day to boot!

We are staying the night at the Oasis RV Park.  This half buried RV is just across from the office.  Cute.

Later that evening we learned this RV park is just a short distance from the Cadillac Ranch.
From the service road, this is the public art installation and sculpture.  It was muddy and cold outside, so we did not walk out there.

This is one of the Cadillacs up close.  You can see how muddy it is.

For dinner we decided to go to the Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72oz steak.  The restaurant will send a limo to your home, pick you up and drive you to the restaurant.   So we called for the limo.

I know this picture is taken into the sun, but this is the limo and driver that picked us up at our site in the RV park.

This is the entrance to the Big Texan Steak Ranch.

This is the challenge meal a person must eat.  I cut off the baked potato.  It is hard to tell, but this 72 oz steak looks like a roast that would feed a family of 4 or 5.

This display case has the chocolate cake and carrot cake served for dessert.  Not shown is a cheese cake and strawberry shortcake. The sizes are huge to say the least.

We got there about 6pm and were surprised it was so empty on a Friday night.  As it turned out, it was only about 10 minutes later and the place was almost full.

After seeing the 72 oz steak and the huge sizes of deserts, we opted to share a BBQ plate.  Then we shared a strawberry shortcake.  We were both full but not uncomfortable.  We were so glad we shared the meal.

The sidewalk near the motel next to the Big Texan had many of the brands used.

The motel was designed to resemble a main street in an old west town.  This picture is a panoramic taken with Tic's new iphone 6+.  The hotel is really a straight line.

After walking around the area, we got a limo ride back to our coach.  What a fun evening!

Before we went to dinner, we went to an RV Museum here in Amarillo.  I will put those pictures in a separate post.

The Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, NM

Thursday, October 22, 2015

We had a little while to sight see this afternoon, so we went to THE highlight of Santa Rosa, The Blue Hole.

This was the first water we saw and wondered if this was The Blue Hole.  It was too shallow and very grungy.  We were told it was crystal clear, blue and deep. Time to keep looking.

Just a short ways down the road was the park lake.  We could tell this was spring fed, but there was a lot of green gunk growing everywhere.  It does look pretty in this picture.  This is not the Blue Hole either.  Keep looking.

We found the Blue Hole.  It is clear and blue.  It is about 82 feet deep.  The water is a constant 62 degrees Fahrenheit. Go to the link below and learn more.

The following 7 pictures are various views from around the hole.
Tic actually made sure his shadow was in the picture.  His shadow is on the rock ledge deep under the surface.

This place is a popular scuba diving place.  We are not sure how deep that square is in the water.
This shows the reflections of the trees while looking at the rocks down in the water.
It is amazing how clear these underwater rocks look.
This is the outlet from the Blue Hole.  It produces about 3000 gals of water per hour.

This was the sky from the Blue Hole parking lot.  Magnificent clouds.  See the rain coming?  Time to head home.

It's close to sunset now and the rain is coming.  A beautiful way to end the day.  Tomorrow we head to Amarillo, TX.

Los Alamos to Santa Rose, NM

Thursday, October 22, 2015

Today we leave Los Alamos and are going to head for Santa Rosa, NM.  Before we leave town we said we would take care of feeding the horse this morning.

This is the view of the mountains as we drove to the horse barn.

As we turned onto the street of the horse barn, this was our view.  Not sure if you can tell, but the lower clouds are in the valley.  Beautiful!

The ice was just melting off the plants at the barn.

This was the view from the horse pasture.  What a beautiful morning!
Time to get home and get ready to leave.

Well here we are on the road.  We are heading down the hill towards Santa Fe.  This picture sort of shows the clouds in the valley below the higher clouds.

Here we are parked at our new home in Santa Rosa, NM at the Santa Rosa RV Park.
