The Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, NM

Thursday, October 22, 2015

We had a little while to sight see this afternoon, so we went to THE highlight of Santa Rosa, The Blue Hole.

This was the first water we saw and wondered if this was The Blue Hole.  It was too shallow and very grungy.  We were told it was crystal clear, blue and deep. Time to keep looking.

Just a short ways down the road was the park lake.  We could tell this was spring fed, but there was a lot of green gunk growing everywhere.  It does look pretty in this picture.  This is not the Blue Hole either.  Keep looking.

We found the Blue Hole.  It is clear and blue.  It is about 82 feet deep.  The water is a constant 62 degrees Fahrenheit. Go to the link below and learn more.

The following 7 pictures are various views from around the hole.
Tic actually made sure his shadow was in the picture.  His shadow is on the rock ledge deep under the surface.

This place is a popular scuba diving place.  We are not sure how deep that square is in the water.
This shows the reflections of the trees while looking at the rocks down in the water.
It is amazing how clear these underwater rocks look.
This is the outlet from the Blue Hole.  It produces about 3000 gals of water per hour.

This was the sky from the Blue Hole parking lot.  Magnificent clouds.  See the rain coming?  Time to head home.

It's close to sunset now and the rain is coming.  A beautiful way to end the day.  Tomorrow we head to Amarillo, TX.
