Coolidge, AZ Fly-in

Saturday, February 6, 2015

Today there was a fly-in at a small local airport which used to be an Army Airfield. We decided that would be a fun thing to do this morning.

Below are various air planes of many kinds including ultra-lights, gyro-copters and even model planes.

This is a gyrocopter.  The upper rotor rotates because of forward momentum, it is not driven.  There is a pusher motor propeller that pushes the craft forward and that causes the upper rotor to rotate and provide lift.

Another gyrocopter, this one nearly half the size of the other.  Fun to watch.

This ultralight continued to draw crowds all morning.

Here are some of the model planes.  They are good sized.
This is a close-up of the superman plane.  We are not sure if it actually flies. The model plane group is having a fly-in next weekend.  We play to go to that also.  I guess we will find out if it truly flies or not next weekend.

One of the new Light Sport planes with a BRS, (ballistic recovery system) a parachute for the aircraft.

The folks standing around this little toot shows how tiny it is.

Even a seaplane in the desert!

And lastly, we watched the Pitts race off, leaving a short smoke trail for the crowd.  Tic tried to catch him in a movie, but he was too fast, so the photo is a single frame from the movie.
Next weekend, there will be a fly-in of model airplanes.  But before that we signed up to take an off-road Jeep ride with a group in the RV park.
