We woke up today and decided to go to Tabor City to see the historic sites. First I decided to start a load of laundry. I went outside to open the drain line and saw this little green frog on the drain hose.
Tabor City is a small town with population of about 2600. This clock was at the major intersection at Main Street & NC 701 in downtown.
We made our way to the Visitors Center and learned that Tabor City used to be called Mt. Tabor. The main industry used to be tobacco farming, however that is no longer the case. Farming has diminished and changed to wheat, corn and soy mostly. The town is trying to develop tourism. Honestly there is not much to see. One of the locals told us that the town is having difficulties. The Visitor's Center gave us the keys to go see the one room school house and the train depot.
Here is the one room school house.
Tic went to a one room school house as a young child and says it was much the same.
These "Teacher Rules" were posted on one side of the room. Read them. They are VERY interesting. They range from chores to courting to financial and on.
This "Teacher's Prayer" was posted on the opposite wall. It is even appropriate for today.
Inside the school room on the side walls were display cases that were not locked and a person could actually pick up OLD school books and confederate monies among other things.
The key for the Train Depot did not work so we only got to look inside this caboose. We returned the keys and then headed to Tabor City Lake.
This was the fishing pier that went out into the lake. We could see houses all around the lake. Some were spaced farther apart than others. See the gazebo across the lake?
Tic zoomed in on the gazebo and we could see a little bridge also. Beautiful grounds.
This house was on another part of the lake.
This is looking up the lake away from the dam.
There a lots of rules for this little lake. And the fees were surprising to us.
There was a small spillway going into a small creek. We walked around and saw the Senior Center where they were serving lunch. We were invited to stay for bingo a little later. We declined. After a picnic lunch on the fishing pier we headed home. Later in the afternoon we headed into Myrtle Beach to see our grandson, Chase, play another baseball game. It is fun to be able to be involved while we are here.

Calabash - Sunset Beach & Waccamaw Lake & State Park
We finally got ourselves together and out to explore about 11 am today. We drove to Calabash NC on the coast. It was a quaint little town. We needed to mail something. Would you believe that we found the post office inside the Ace Hardware store? It was unique. We did not take a picture. The US Post office sign was actually mounted on the outside front wall of the Ace Hardware.
After the post office, we walked on the shore near several fishing boats that could be chartered.
Look what Dusty did in a matter of minutes. What a fisher person. LOL
See the huge place across the waterway. We found a way across and discovered it was actually town homes. Dusty thought she saw a cross, but it turned out to be the porch supports of which there were several. No cross at all.
Down the road we found this little park.
As we walked towards the little fishing pier we saw these large cactus. Dusty thought it was unique to see these large cactus in such a humid area.
Here is the pier under the bridge to Sunset Beach. The tide was completely out. See the water line on the bases of the supports for the bridge.
This is on the way down the bridge into Sunset Beach.
This was a beach entrance and a long fishing pier in Sunset Beach.
What an interesting kite someone was flying on the beach.
Here is a closer look at this interesting kite.
From Sunset Beach we headed inland to Lake Waccamaw & Lake Waccamaw State Park.
The pine forests were thick on the road to Lake Waccamaw.
A 400 yard walkway to Lake Waccamaw.
As we walked along we could see a pavilion ahead.
Once we got to the pavillion the dock went out into the lake a ways.
The water had the color of tea, yet you could see the bottom. We asked about the color and were told it was tannins from the soil. The park ranger told us the darker the color the better because it discouraged algae. Dusty saw several large fish, but they swam away before she could get pictures.
The lake is very large.
You cannot see all they way across the lake. Amazing!

This is Lakeside Drive around Lake Waccamaw. Beautiful!
This is one of the houses across the street from its boat dock on the lake.
Here are some of the piers across the street from the houses. Obviously there is not enough ground between the piers and the street for the houses. Beautiful drive!

Carrollwoods April 25-27
We left Lakewood about 11am on Friday April 25 and arrived at Carrollwoods Campground next to Grapefull Sisters Vineyards. We are out in the country. It is really peaceful. All spots are pull-thrus with full hookups. Firmly packed gravel roads and parking pads are fairly level. Cable is no extra charge and the WiFi is excellent. This is part of Coast to Coast.
This is our spot on Friday. The park is nearly full.
This is our spot after the neighbor in the little trailer left on Sunday.
This is the office and wine tasting/gift shop. The sisters live upstairs.
Here is one of the vineyards. See the bottle tree in the foreground? We saw one in the Brookgreen Gardens. The info there told us the bottle tree was to keep away evil spirits.
As we walked around the porch of the house, we saw this moth. It seemed to be hurt because it did not fly away as we came up to it. It just awkwardly moved on the floor.
This building houses the restrooms with showers, laundry room and a covered patio with table and chairs. Behind the fence is a swimming pool.
Here is the swimming pool.
There is even a playground. This is a nice place and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. If we are in the area again we will definitely stay here again.
Saturday afternoon there was a bluegrass band from 1-4 pm. Also about 3:15 pm the Myrtle Beach Skydiving Club had 8 skydivers drop in. The last skydiver had a US flag attached to him.
Here are the first 2 and one of them has a smoker on his feet.
The 2 pics above are as some of them get closer.
Here's the guy with the American flag.
Here is one of the skydivers. They all had cameras on the top of their helmets.
There was one female. The young ladies at the park were fascinated with her.
Here is the bluegrass band playing. They were pretty good.
It was a hot day in the the sun so Dusty sat under her umbrella. As you can tell others did the same.
Tic is MY handsome dude. He used a different kind of umbrella. It just shaded his head. Hee Hee It was a fun time!
Sunday was another beautiful day. We slept in. Then I fixed eggs & sausage for breakfast.
We were even able to watch the 9:30 am service at NSBC. GREAT morning! That afternoon we did a little organization of the storage bays and took a walk thru the woods. Tic cooked filets outside for our dinner. This is the life.
