Hawaii Cruise - First 5 days at sea

December 2 - 7, 2017

We are cruising out of San Diego with a group from Escapees (a RV organization we belong to). It will be fun to be with other RVers.

This is our cruise route.

We were supposed to leave at 5 pm, but we are delayed.  Apparently one of the lifeboats would not deploy correctly. I would like to have that working before we take off.

Downtown San Diego from the ship.

Full moon over San Diego tonight before we launched.

Sunset from the back deck.

The Californian all lit up as seen from our ship before launching.

The dome is open over the pool in the middle of the ship.

A beautiful day at sea. This is from the sundeck on level 10.

Our first morning at sea, the ship turned around to meet a rescue helicopter halfway between where the ship was and the San Diego shore. Apparently a crew member had a major medical emergency. They closed several of the upper decks when the helicopter came.  It lowered a gurney basket.  The patient was put in and the basket raised to the helicopter.  There was no place on the ship for the helicopter to land. After the delay in departing and turning around for a couple of hours, we were now about 5.5 hrs behind schedule.

The captain told us that as long as the weather was good, we would be traveling a little faster to make up the time.

Sun is setting as seen from the back of the ship on level 9. Beautiful reflection on water.

Another sunny day at sea.  We are looking at the dome that covers the pool area in the middle of the ship.  Can you see Tic and I's shadows?  We didn't realize we took a picture of ourselves.

Holland America's emblems on the smokestacks.

A beautiful morning before the clouds thickened. This pool is on level 9 on the back of the ship.

A beautiful sunset we got one evening before docking at our first stop in Hawaii.
We are looking forward to our first visit to Hawaii!
