Hilo, Hawaii - Part 3

Friday, December 8, 2017 - continued

Our last stop for the day was the Thurston Lava Tube in the tropical forest area. Thurston Lava Tube is a long, subterranean cave formed by ancient flowing lava.
We had a short hike to the lava tube.

This is just inside the lava tube looking out to the entrance.

This lava tube is just like a cave.  It's amazing that lava created tube/cave.

Back to the ship after a wonderfully blessed day full of enjoying God's wonders.

On the ship's way to our next port, we went past Kilauea Volcano, a still active volcano on the island of Hawaii.
We were a very long way off shore.  This was the best picture we got.  All those spots are hot lava flowing out of the ground.  Later we learned that the ship got closer, but we gave up and went inside before that happened. They did not announce inside the ship that we could get a good view.  You had to be on the view deck to see it.  That disappointed me.
Oh well.  The rest of the day was wonderful and we have big plans for tomorrow.
