Lake City CO and Slumgullion Pass

Thursday, July 5, 2018

We have been told we needed to see Lake City and go over Slumgullion Pass, so that is our goal for today.

We decided to take a dirt road through the Powderhorn Wilderness Area to reach the Slumgullion Pass.

The road went through both public and private lands and followed along Cabolla Creek.
The Cabolla Creek was a large creek compared to what I think a creek would be.

Both above and below we are still driving through the Powderhorn Wilderness Area and following the Cabolla Creek. The landscape changed frequently.

The next 3 pictures are of an area that opened into a wide valley. This is one farm/ranch (we think).

WOW what a gorgeous setting.

We made it to Slumgullion Pass. Below is one shot of the view from here. We are having many Rocky Mountain high experiences.  Seems we cross a tall pass many days.

As we headed towards Lake City from Slumgullion Pass, we saw...
San Christobal Lake from a high view point.

We stopped in Lake City, picked up a local map and had ice cream.  We failed to take pictures of the cute town.

On our way out of town, we saw this house.  The hole in the wall below them would bother Tic and I. The Lake Fork Gunnison River is at the bottom of this wall.

The drive out of Lake City headed back to Gunnison follows along the Lake Fork Gunnison River. There are many unique rock formations and walls all along the drive.

Then we decided to take another dirt road called the Sapinero Cut-off.  It lead to Sapinero on the Blue Mesa Reservoir.  This is the final leg of our drive.

Another beautiful day enjoying God's wonders.
