Dells of Wisconsin Dells

Tuesday, Aug 5

Since we are both fighting colds, thanks to me, the only excursion today will be a boat ride up the upper dells in Wisconsin Dells.
Here is the boat we are boarding for our tour.  We ended up on the front row inside right.
We are headed out thru that narrow opening.  A little overcast right now and the wind is cool.  Glad we are inside.
This is a close-up of the point on the right side of the picture above.  The whole area is sandstone.
This is a rock formation they called Chimney Rock.  Original, huh?
They named this face looking formation after the Indian Chief Black Hawk.

There were so many interesting formations.
This is the first stop of two on the boat ride.  This is called Witches Gulch.
This picture and several below are of the walk thru Witches Gulch.

These sandstone layers are so thin.

Look at the vertical split in these rocks.
This is a close-up of the moss growing on the rocks.  It looks like miniature moss rose plants.
They told us the trees could grow straight out of the rocks because the sand was so soft the roots could get the water they needed.
This was our 2nd stop.  We got off the boat and walked to this formation called Stand Rock.  The formation on left is 5 ft from the formation on the right.  There is going to be a dog that jumps from right to left and back.  The 3 pictures below show the dog and handler and the dog jumping from left to right.  You can only see the dog's hind legs in the jump.
See the dog and his handler?
Here's a close up of the dog and handler.
See the dog's hind legs?  He was quick.
This formation was called Anvil Rock.
The 3 pictures above are more interesting formations.
We passed this PT-109 a person could also get a ride on.

It was a great river tour.  Glad we went.

On our way back to the parking lot we found special parking for Corvettes.  Wouldn't want any door dings.
Tomorrow we head for Chippewa Falls, Wissota State Park.
