Davis Mountains State Park Texas

Sunday, November 30

After watching church on the internet, we visited with our neighbors a little this morning before they left to go home.  After eating lunch we took off to see the Davis Mountains State Park.
We saw this dramatic rugged mountain just shortly after we left the Balmorhea State Park.

On down the way to the Davis Mountains State Park we saw these interesting rocks. Tic took this panoramic.  Almost across the highway was ....
this house on this hill.  What a view they must have!  Wonder how they get water up there?
We are now in the Davis Mountain State Park at an overlook that is at 5500 ft elevation.  I drew a black line to point out the location of McDonald Observatory.
From the same overlook we are looking down at part of the camping area.  The larger white building towards the top of the picture is the CCC Indian Lodge located inside the park also.  You will see more of it later.
Looking out from the other side of this lookout you can see a large solar field set up.
As we drove further around the loop there was another overlook and picnic area.  These rocks look like lava bubbles that did not burst.  Unusual.
This is a closeup of a large ranch at the edge of these unusual rocks.
This is a shelter over one of the picnic tables at this overlook.
There are also several trails that lead off from here.
This is the same shelter as above only from the other side looking back.  You can see our Jeep.
This big rock water tank was at this site also.
I stole the camera and got Tic at the top.  Then I had to take the camera to him so he could get pictures from the top of the water tank.
This was his view from the top of the water tank.

At this point we headed back down the hill.  We decided to go see the Indian Lodge.
This big lizard was on the rocks just in front of where we parked at the Indian Lodge.  Tic did good getting this picture.
This is the lodge from the parking lot.  We could and did walk between the buildings and through the lounge area.
Here is the swimming pool from one of the upper decks.
From that same vantage point you can see another building of rooms.  There were probably 5 separate buildings.
There are tables set up to be able to play games or whatever on this side of the lounge.
There is more seating and a fireplace on the other side of the lounge.
This plaque was inside the lounge honoring men who built this lodge and park.
This statue was near the plaque.  Look at those muscles.

As we headed back to Balmorhea State Park we saw this rock formation all by itself.
Tic's balance is better than mine, so he climbed up the rocks to give a perspective of how high this pile of rocks was.
That's my Honey!  He's the best!  Isn't he handsome!?!
This pile of rocks was at just behind the tree near the road.  Aren't I cute!?!
It was a beautiful day and we had a great time!
