Yuma, AZ Quartermaster Depot and Visitors Center

Sunday, Jan 11, 2015

After watching the NSBC church service on the internet, we headed to the Quartermaster Depot and Visitors Center combination.
This site is basically where supplies came to town on steamboats and were distributed.  The Colorado River runs on the side of these grounds.  The Colorado River is also where their water supply came from.
This is a replica of what the depot looked like in its day.  The steamboat is even docked along side.
This is a motorized railroad repair car.  It is in sad shape but I thought it was cute.
This is an original passenger car on original tracks that ran into the Depot.
This is a side view of a belly-drop wagon.  There is a screw mechanism that opens the bottom .  The picture below is the inside of this wagon above.

Here is another belly-drop wagon on display.
In the same building of equipment being displayed, this was the Depot's first fire wagon.  The wagon held water, but not the hose.
Here is the hose reel that was taken along with the fire truck.  This was pulled by men.
This old Ford was used back in those days.  The sign talks about  boards being laid for roads.  It turns out that the wood wore out the tires faster.
This old Ford pickup was used for deliveries.
The above sign describes the steamboats of the era.
Look at the size of this steamboat steering wheel.
The anchor is small comparatively speaking.
The building below is the water reservoir described above.

This was the Quartermaster's home.  It obviously has been refurbished. Love the wrap-around porch.
This building held various shops including the grocery and medical facilities.
This grapefruit tree was growing on the grounds.
Here is an orange tree on the grounds of the Depot also.  When we left, we headed back home.

On the way to our campground we pass several lemon orchards.  Tic took this picture.
All the orchards are irrigated.  Here is one of the canals.
The fields also had these fans spread out.  Tic thought perhaps the fans were turned on when it was cold to prevent frost from settling.
This is the entrance to the KOFA KO-OP Escapees campground we stayed at.
As the sun was setting, Tic saw this angel in the clouds.
A short bit later this was how the clouds looked.  We are so blessed to be enjoying God's glory day in and day out.  Thank you Lord!

Tomorrow we head to the desert near Quartzsite, AZ for 5 nights with the Beaver Ambassadors Club.  Beaver is the make of our mobile condo.
