Burr-Oak Woods in Blue Springs, MO

Friday, Sept 23, 2016

We decided today would be a good day for a hike.  It is supposed to get into the upper 80's this afternoon so we wanted to be finished before it got too hot.

We found the Burr-Oak Woods in Blue Springs, MO.  We decided on the approximately 2 mile walk through the woods.
Our hike started by crossing this bridge over a small stream of water.  Obviously by the size of the bridge, the water can get much higher.

There was some up hill.  Nothing super steep.

We came across these rock formations.  Thick sandwich layers.

There were many access paths up the hill between the rocks. Interesting.  See above and below.

This tree appeared to be growing out of the rocks.  The unique formation on the side was actually an opening.  The picture below is what Tic saw when he put the camera in the opening.
Not sure what the red coloring is.  It was a couple of feet deep.

More unique rock formations.

I decided I'd better hold this rock up for Tic.  Hee Hee

This chipmunk and a super fast squirrel (no picture) were the only wildlife we saw on our walk.

We found this big burl in the middle of this little tree interesting.

After our hike, we went to the Nature Center.  It was very interesting even for us old folks.  Then we had our picnic lunch.  It is already 91 degrees so we decided to head home.
