Oelwein, IA

Monday & Tuesday, Sept 5 & 6, 2016

Monday, we are moving to Oelwein, IA.  This is a 3 night stop to get some minor stuff fixed and just take it easy and enjoy life.

We are about to cross the mighty Mississippi River leaving Illinois and entering Iowa.

I took this picture of the Mississippi River through the window of the coach entry door.  Not bad for me.

Just after we got off the bridge we see the sign entering Iowa.

We are staying at the Lakeshore RV Resort & Campground using our Coast to Coast membership.  This is our site.  It is mostly level with FHU and 50amp.  There seems to be a lot of permanent or at least seasonal trailers and park models.  Otherwise, since it is after Labor Day, it is pretty empty.  It is just outside the little town of Oelwein.  No trains or planes close by.  It should be a great few days.

This is the Oelwein City park just a short distance from our campground.  There are actually campsites here that have water and 50amp.  Seniors pay $12/ night or $77 for a week.  It was a pretty park.

This is Lake Oelwein in the Oelwein City Park.

Oelwein Lake has a spillway that is not flowing over much.

Another view of Lake Oelwein.

This pretty blue heron was watching everything going on around him carefully.

Tuesday we decided to drive to Waterloo, IA and go to Sam's Club to pick up some groceries we like to get from Sam's.

We drove through the little town of Fairbank, IA.  They had a spillway at the end of their lake also.  There seems to be lots of creeks and rivers in this area. This is a beautiful park for a little town of approximately 1100.

Well, Tic surprised me and bought a new camera at Sam's.  All the remainder of the pictures will be using his new camera.

We drove back to the Oelwein City Park to test the camera.  Tic's first subject was this little cottontail.

Then he zoomed in.  Look at the detail of the hair on the rabbit.

He decided to take a black and white of the clouds.  I REALLY like this one because of the sun rays.

We are back in Lakeshore RV Resort and Campground.  There is a sand volley court, jungle gym for the kids, horseshoe pits, canoes to rent, basketball court and covered pavillion with lots of picnic tables & benches just out of sight.  This is all on the Oelwein Lake also.

Suddenly Tic notices a little squirrel at the edge of the grass & sand.

There were several of these little birds in a couple of the trees.  They were chirping to each other.  Maybe about us.  Who knows.  We don't know what kind of bird it is, but Tic was able to get a close up with his new camera.

We were hoping to get some great sunset pictures tonight so headed for the lake again after dinner.  Pretty clouds.

This was the "best" sunset picture Tic got.  The cloud formation is unique, but too thick to get good sunset pictures.

We only have a quarter moon this evening.  Tic said this is not zoomed all the way or the moon was too big to fit in one picture.  I think his new camera is going to be a lot of fun for him.
