On Friday, Sept 12, we left Cutty's at Spirit Lake, IA and went to Wilson Island State Park in Missouri Valley, IA. This park just reopened due to flooding. It was very wet and we seemed to be the only ones at the park.
This is Wilson Lake state park. The dark spots are where water is standing. It was still very wet. We did have full hookups with 50 amp for $18 per night. We camped here to visit more relatives in the nearby town of Logan.
Our GPS guided us from Wilson Island State Park to Logan through this low bridge. See that it is only 11 ft 1 in at the top. Good thing we did not need to drive the coach.
On Sunday, Sept 14 we started our quick travels to Los Alamos/White Rock, NM. We made it in 4 days traveling an average of 4 hours per day. We stopped in Elm Creek, NE. Nothing special and no pictures. The next day we stopped in Siebert, CO. Again nothing special and no pictures.
The 3rd day we stopped at Capulin, NM. The views on the way to Capulin were beautiful!
This view is headed east from Raton, NM toward Capulin, NM. A little bit hazy but gorgeous.
Our campground was nothing much but the price was right and it was just across from the Capulin Volcano National Monument. Shortly after we got to the campground it started to rain. Typical afternoon shower in NM. When the rain was over we decided to go the volcano.
As we looked one direction, we could still see rain off in the distance. As we looked in another direction, we could see sunshine.
From just behind the sign this is the rain storm you could see.
Turning slightly to the left this is the sunshine. Pretty amazing to see such dramatically different weather conditions with just a little turn.
Here is a panoramic of the rain storm.
We headed to the visitor center at the monument. Boohoo we arrived too late. The center was closed and the drive up the volcano was locked. We immediately decided we would have to come back in the morning. It was supposed to open at 8am. As we were leaving the parking lot we saw a small group of deer.
There are actually 4 deer there but the others were in the tall grass with their heads down.
As we got back to the road, we saw a sign for Folsom 8 miles away. We decided to go see what was special about Folsom. On the way to Folsom we saw this small volcano.
We later learned it was named Baby Capulin.
This historical marker was right by the Folsom Museum.
This is the magnificent Folsom Museum. It had closed so we did not get the opportunity to go inside. We headed back home.
On the way out of Folsom, we saw this family of wild turkeys.
This was our sunset on this beautiful evening!
