Tsankawi Ruins in Los Alamos NM

Thursday, Oct 2
The boys will be arriving about dinner time on Friday and I'm cooking.   So today we decided to take another hike, this time through Tsankawi Ruins.
This sign was at roadside.  We hiked into the mesa in the background.
Tic wanted to be sure to get to the top to take a picture of the view.
This tree was along our path.  Take note of the deep blue sky.  Many of our pictures show the beautifully deep blue skies of New Mexico.
There were many unique rock formations and caves.  We did not take any pictures of the petroglyphs in the caves.
This is looking towards Santa Fe from the top of the mesa.
This is looking back at the path we took to the top of the mesa.  See the ladder?  We climbed the ladder then hiked up the trail.  The flat area at the top the ladder had many depressions in the rock.  We were told the depressions were where they ground their grains and whatever.
Here is a panoramic view towards Santa Fe. The deep blue sky is really that color.  Below is the same picture only zoomed in on the Santa Fe mountains.

We did not take as many pictures as we should have.  It was a great little hike.

The above was not the view we remembered so we decided to go to the White Rock Overlook.  White Rock is like a suburb of Los Alamos that is slightly down the hill from Los Alamos.
This is the view one direction from White Rock Overlook.  This is the Rio Grande River flowing through this canyon near White Rock, New Mexico.
This is a closeup of the view towards the Espanola valley from the White Rock Overlook.  This is a pretty grand view also but we could not see the Santa Fe mountains very well.  We enjoyed this short hike also.  We really do like New Mexico!
