The Henry Ford - Part 1

Greenfield Village - June 13th, 2016

The Henry Ford is an expansive indoor and outdoor museum complex, consisting of the Henry Ford (indoor) Museum and the Greenfield Village (outdoor).  Today we visit the Greenfield Village.

From wikipedia dot com: Greenfield Village has 240 acres of land of which only 90 acres are used for the attraction, the rest being forest, river and extra pasture.

A wonderful fountain at the entrance.

There is a coal-fired locomotive that runs around the perimeter of the available park.  Here it comes now, let's get a ticket to ride!
The train makes 3 additional stops as it circles the park grounds.  You can get off and on all day with your ticket purchase.  Even though I try to get in as many steps every day that I can, I'm thinking this will help me keep up with my granddaughter.

We boarded the train here, and then got off at the very first stop.  It was nearly lunchtime, and we found a Bar-B-Q place that had fabulous pulled pork and brisket sandwiches.  The geese had to come begging.

As we were eating, we saw many old Fords, chugging along.  This was another thing you can spend money on, buying a ride.  I tried to blur faces, so it is not your eyes going bad.

And draft horses pulling wagons,

Or, even an antique city bus.

There are a number of homes that you can tour,
This little charmer was where Robert Frost composed his poetry.

And this was the home of the author of our American dictionary.
This might be a good time to point out that these homes were not built here, but were either moved here or is a replica.  See the next pic.
So among other names for this wonderful place is National Heritage.
Edison's laboratory facilities from New Jersey are also on display here.  Fascinating, and the staff here seem to be very knowledgeable and eager to share.

We have walked a lot, so we decide to reboard the train to move to another area of the park.  Much more to see.

We rode to Smiths Creek and went exploring.  Found the carousel!

We will definitely have to ride.  How many years has it been since I last did this?  And I don't know if granddaughter ever has.
Today, she takes a ride!

One last look back as the train rolls on again.

Run through the covered bridge,

catch up to the train to ride back to the entrance, and WOW, what a day!  We had fun!
