The Henry Ford - Part 2

Henry Ford Museum - Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

We are back at "The Henry Ford" today to take in as much of the museum as we can.

We girls are halfway down the hall to the museum entrance which is to the left.  Greenfield Village where we visited yesterday is all the way to the end of the hall, then to the right.  Tic was hanging back to take the pic.

This was the first thing we saw once we entered.  Wow!  We are making a sharp right turn here to see the Presidential Limos.

 Ronald Reagan

John F Kennedy

 Dwight D Eisenhower
 Franklin D Roosevelt
                                Theodore Roosevelt

We moved on to the trains, sitting on rails too!

We are standing next to this huge engine, and we are about in the center!  Massive!

One of the things we are enjoying, is the ability to climb aboard and explore.
This would be the train engineer's office!
Granddaughter with her hand on the throttle!
And there are trains as far back as you can see.
Quite a snow shovel, Hey?

This is the Ford museum, so of course there are cars here too!  And not just Fords.
Chevrolet Corvair, probably 1960 vintage, in "sky blue".

You should know, we did not have time to examine each one.  Whew!

 The infamous and ill-timed Edsel.

 A Crosley hot-shot!

And Albuquerque's Al Unser's racer.

And then there were airplanes,
This is unusual in that it used a fixed wing and rotary wing, a 1931 Pitcairn autogiro.

Check out the wooden landing skis.

We took a short break for lunch, the we hit it again.  Made in America!
One area was devoted to "made in America".  This is an exploded view of the major parts of the Ford.  Which brings me to tell you about
Innovation Nation, a Saturday morning TV show that highlights the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

Here is where my granddaughter was invited to help assemble this car.  Every day, the staff starts over, putting the pieces of the car together.

They are explaining what she is to assemble and what effect it will have.

And now she puts the final touch on her part of the assembly.  As others come through, they too will be invited to participate, and by the end of the day, the car will once again be completely assembled.

More of "Made in America", this time furniture.

Enough already!  There is way more to see here, jewelry, clocks, farm equipment, large machinery, electric generators, doll houses, dog houses, and entire area devoted to justice, a display of Abe Lincoln's Gettysburg address, a section on the abolitionists and the end of the practice of slavery.  We saw a lot, but we did not see it all, but it was time to move on.
