Drive to Monastery of Christ in the Desert North of Abiquiu, NM

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

Rux goes to pre-school today, so we decided to drive to the Monastery of Christ in the Desert a little ways north of Abiquiu, NM on the banks of the Chama River.

The drive is absolutely beautiful.  The mountains and cliffs are full of color. There is so much unique beauty that this post is full of pictures!

Gorgeous clouds over the colorful mountains as we drive to the monastery.

Notice the various layers of colors. Awesome!

Clouds started building, as usual in the afternoons in the mountains.

 Tic's dead tree picture.

These 3 crosses we saw on the walk to monastery from the parking lot.  The walk is about a quarter of a mile.

Once we got closer to the monastery the mountains were even more beautiful.

This is our first glimpse of the monastery.

What a beautiful and serene setting!

The doors to the sanctuary are gorgeous. The other door is propped open and you can see a screen door also propped open inviting anyone in.

This is what you see as you step inside the sanctuary.

This prayer garden area was between the sanctuary and the building that housed the gift shop, gallery, dining room, small gathering place and small chapel.

As you walked into the other building Christ greeted you!

These are the grounds looking towards the Chama River.

The Chama River near the monastery. We did see some people rafting and kayaking down the river, but I did not include those pictures.

Those ridges in the side of the mountain were intriguing.

WOW the cloud formation over this mountain and in black & white was dramatic to me.

The colors here reminded me of an area in Utah we drove to see. I can't remember the name of the area. Old age is the pits.

Another mountain with those same ridges down low. Below is a close-up of the unique formation.

WOW we had a wonderfully blessed day! When we left we weren't sure what to expect. Thank you Lord!
