Shawano County WI Barn Quilts

Monday, July 14

We piddled around the house most of the morning.  We saw on the morning news that Shawano County was know for its barn quilts.  A particular couple decided they wanted to preserve some of the barns and the history of the area. This couple actually painted quilt patterns on 4 x 8 sheets of plywood.  Then they solicited farmers to decorate their barns.  Because we are in Shawano County, after lunch we decided to drive around the countryside looking for barn quilts.

The countryside and cloud formations were absolutely gorgeous! What a serendipity when looking for the barn quilts.
This picture and the 2 below are my favorite cloud pictures Tic took.
Lots of corn crops.  We guess to supply the corn feed for the dairy cows.

We are in the part of the state call the "Great North Woods" of Wisconsin. Below is a picture of a "forest" we drove by.  We didn't want to miss the forest for the trees.
Here are the trees in the forest.  As you can see they are in straight rows, so we know this "forest" was purposely planted.

Below are pictures of many of the barn quilts we saw.
Just a pretty view from the roadside.  We feel totally blessed.
This quilt is on the side of a house in Gresham, WI.
Here is the Gresham town clock.  The building in the background had several quilts on it.
Here are all the quilts on the building.
The 2 pictures above are more buildings in Gresham with quilts on them.
Now back to more barn quilts.

I'll close with a beautiful panoramic of a farm and the clouds.
What a wonderful afternoon!  We headed home after this.

We saw an ad in the local paper about a close by casino offering a special dinner of tenderloin steak, 6 grilled shrimp and red potatoes pan cooked with garlic & parsley all for $5.50.  We decided to go for it.
Wow it was good.  I think we were too hungry to remember to take a picture before we ate.

The restaurant was smoke free and a nice atmosphere.  However, since we don't gamble and don't like being in a smokey environment we left the facility immediately after dinner.

We started a fire as soon as we got home.  "Campfire smoke is OK".  We sat outside and enjoyed the fire until it started to rain about 10pm.  Another fantastic day!!
