After watching Charles Stanley on TV we headed out to Enchanted Rock State Park. It was about 40 miles north of Kerrville. We were able to listen to Northside Baptist Church (our church) in Weatherford, TX on Tic's cell phone on our drive. Great sermon today, Van!
This was the first view we got of Enchanted Rock on our drive there. The magnificent house in the foreground has nothing to do with the park.
Obviously we have arrived at the entrance.
This is the view of the main rock as we see it from the parking lot. Look at all the people already on the rock and we arrived about 10:30am. According to the map we were given at the visitors center, the elevation change from bottom to top was about 300 ft. That would be like walking up the stairs of a 30 story building. Without handrails, thank you.
From the parking lot, this is a closeup of the bottom half of Enchanted Rock and....
this was the top half.
Just part way up our climb to the top, Tic stopped and took a picture of the large formation right next to Enchanted Rock.
This closeup of the above picture shows people coming down that formation. It was a much steeper climb. It rained pretty good here yesterday so water was still around.
This huge boulder was sitting all by itself at the top edge of a large rock formation. It looks almost like God just set it there.
This is looking back down the hill. We are still only about half way up.
This is looking back towards the direction we came from.
This is another formation to the right of Enchanted Rock. You can see people have climbed to the top of it also.
We are a little more than half way up now. I had to stop and catch my breath frequently.
From the top, Tic zoomed in on the parking lot.
There were several small pools of water. Some were deeper than others. You can see in one of the pools grass and yucca plants had grown. The wind was strong! Look at the ripples on the water.
This is another directions view from the top.
There is my special guy on top of the mountain. It was extremely windy on top. Look at Tic's pant legs. The wind was so strong that when we picked up our walking sticks to move them with our next step, the walking stick would blow off to the side. At times it would almost blow me over. Several smaller children held their parents hands because they could not stand up.
Tic took this picture of the formation to the left of this huge rock we were on.
Near the bottom of Enchanted Rock was this running stream. The water is so clear.
The water is deeper than it looks. The rock in the middle is completely under water. However the top of the rock is barely covered with water.
It was a great hike. We had to post this for all the old folks we know that won't ever get to the top. Hee Hee
