Ink Lake State Park near Burnet, TX

Tuesday, November 18

Originally we had decided to go to Brownwood State Park.  Yesterday we decided to go to Ink Lake State Park near Burnet, TX.  It is a really pretty part of Texas.

As we were about to pull away this morning, we remembered we forgot to get the inspection done on the coach.  So, that was our first stop.
We went to Car Country Inspections. We thought it was cute the way he was able to take license plates and cut them to create his company's name.

Then we fueled up at the truck stop and finally hit the road about 11:45 am.

Shortly after we turned south onto Hwy 281, we passed "The Star of Texas Rocker".  It used to be the biggest rocker in the US.  I'm not sure it still is since that sign is gone now.

We got detained by construction along the way and finally arrived at Ink Lake State Park about 3pm.  We picked out our site and got set up.
We found a large beautiful site.  I even got Tic in this picture.
Our large site even has its own fire pit.  This would be a nice park to stay for a while.
We are the only people in this section of the park.  This is the view we see standing on our front door step.  The lake does not even seem to be low.  We decided to take a short hike.
We walked from the "You are Here" point to the first hiker.
This was about half way up the trail.
Look at that huge boulder on the edge of this solid rock ledge. Beautiful and unique!
This is just a little further up the lake.  A lot of the rock looks like pink granite.
This little rock balanced on the other rock formation was amazing.
Along our walk we also saw this little cave.  The camera flash did not go off so the deeper part of the cave does not show.
The pictures above and below are some interesting striations we saw in some of the rocks.
It was wonderful to be able to take a such a pretty hike with so little daylight left.  I don't like it getting dark so early in the day.  I will be glad when daylight hours stop getting shorter and start getting longer.  We head to Kerrville, TX tomorrow.
