Sabino Canyon in Colorado National Forest, Florence, AZ

Thursday, March26, 2015 - Dusty's hike

We left by 8:30am this morning to head to Sabino & Bear Canyons to go hiking.  Sabino Canyon Trail has a narrated tram up the canyon with 9 stops.  You can get off and back on at any of the stops and hike around each stop.  Bear Canyon Trail has a tram that takes you to the trail head for Seven Falls, which is an 8 mile round trip moderate hike.  The Seven Falls trail has 7 water crossings one way.  Tic decided he would hike to Seven Falls.  The Bear Canyon pictures will be in a separate post.

I took the narrated tram to the last stop and walked all the way back. The following pictures are from my tour through Sabino Canyon.
This is the start of my hike back to the visitor's center.  As you can see, there is a stream that flows down the canyon.
At the first of several rock bridges I saw this lizard on the bridge.  He has obviously lost part of his tail.  I saw lots of these lizards on my hike.
Here is a little pool along the way down.
This is just a pretty view of the stream and a small pool.  The rocks were so unique.
More beautiful rock.  The picture's colors are not as dramatic as it really is.
The rocks are black and white just like the picture.  The stream flowed into this deeper spot in the rock.  Look at the people's legs in the upper right side of the picture for a perspective on the size of the water pool and water fall.
This is the whole rock formation with the stream flowing through and creating a larger pond below.  The little fall and pool in the picture above is near the top right of center in this picture.  This shows how big this formation really is.  It is beautiful!!!
This is one of the several rock bridges that goes over the water crossings.
Just another beautiful spot.
I hooked up with these 2 ladies that were hiking down also.  I'm not sure how many rock bridges there are on this trail.  You can see water is flowing across this bridge.
This pond is on one side of the bridge above.  It was such a beautiful walk.
To the left of this bridge there were people teaching others how to pan for garnets. The garnet stones were large sand size stones.  We were told that no matter how small the stone, it had 12 sides.  The people were in the shade and my picture did not come out.

Look carefully.  This is supposed to be a face winking at you.  The small vertical rocks under the nose are supposed to be the teeth showing through his smile.
At the end of the trail was this ocotillo cactus with its small leaves out and red flowers blooming at the top.  Notice how the sky is very blue.
