Tucson Botanical Garden - Bonsai Exhibit

Saturday, March 28, 2015

Bonsai has been a traditional form of gardening and art in Japan for centuries. The art of bonsai is one in which the look and feel of a larger tree is created in a miniature potted tree.  The bonsai exhibit was a special for the weekend.  There were lots of unique bonsai on display.  Unless I know something  special about a particular picture there will not be many words.  The person doing the pruning is called an artist.

This is miniature Maple Trees

I asked the person who owned this plant if I could rotate the container to get a better view of the flowers.  He allowed that I could, but then the back of the plant would be showing.

So this is the view from the rear!

On this little tree, you can see the heavy clothes hanger wire used to train the plant.

We visited with a novice pruner, and he said the hard part was seeing what the tree wanted to be.
Each bonsai is unique.  The age of the plant/tree can be seen on some of the pictures. Fascinating!
