Cashiers & Brevard NC area Waterfalls

Friday, July 15, 2016

There are so so many waterfalls in this area that 2 days is not enough time to see them all.  So the following will be the ones we saw today.

So off we go through the hills of South Carolina headed to North Carolina.

Before we headed north, we crossed the middle of 2 lakes.  On the map it looks like one lake, but the northern half is called Lake Jocassee and the southern half is called Lake Keowee.

We finally made it to Upper Whitewater Falls. Combined with the lower falls, It is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies.  The upper falls plummets 411 feet.

While driving to our next set of waterfalls we stopped at this overlook.  That is Lake Jocassee in the distance.  We are now in NC and Lake Jocassee is near the border of NC & SC. The denseness of the trees is amazing.

Upper Bearwallow Falls.

Bridal Veil Falls per the sign at the road.  You are no longer allowed to drive behind the waterfall.  There is so little water falling that you cannot even tell that I am standing behind the water.  Good thing it was not a long hike to this falls.

Dry Falls.  There is plenty of water so not sure why the name.  As you can see, there is a trail that goes behind the waterfall.

Here we are starting in behind Dry Falls.

Lower Cullasaja Falls

Upper Cullasaja Falls

Looking Glass Falls.  You can see people swimming in the pool below the falls.  By this time we were wishing we had our swimsuits so we could join them. It was HOT and HUMID.

Moore Cove Falls.  Looks a little drier here. This was our last waterfall of the day.  I think we hiked about 4.5 miles today.

Another beautiful view on our drive home.  Gorgeous country!! Thank you Lord! that we are able to enjoy so much of your handiwork.
