Edgar, WI & Miscellaneous

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

Today we leave Oconto, WI and go to Captains Cove Campground near Gresham, WI.  This is only a one night stop on the way to Edgar, WI where we plan to visit friends.

This was our site at Captains Cove.  It was VERY tight, no sewer and only 30 amp.  Now in all fairness, we picked the site.  There were a couple of others available that had sewer and 50 amp, but down in the trees and no TV or cell reception.  Since it was only one night we chose this.  The people around us were super friendly and we had a nice stay.

We left about 9:30am and headed to Edgar where our friends had space for us at their "home".  Here we are parked at their place.  They even had 50 amp for us.  They park their coach inside the building.
We arrived about 11am.  The clouds were beautiful so had to get this picture also.

She also had some pretty flowers in her flower garden. See below.

Then we all took off for the 43rd Annual North Central Wisconsin Antique Steam & Gas Engine Show complete with flea market.
On the drive to the fair, the clouds were beautiful.  I'm just posting this one picture of several Tic took.

Tic took lots of pictures of many tractors and equipment.  I'm including only the ones I found to be the most unusual and interesting.

As you can see they had all kinds of tractors, equipment and even model trains.  Just before we left this little "car" pulled in.  Tic said it was being run by a Briggs & Stratton engine.  Too cute!  [TinkerToy]

We left the fair, went back to our friends and had dinner together.  About 8:30pm we headed to our own coach and were watching TV.  I heard some strange noises.  I went outside to look around and did not see anything so just forgot about it.  The next morning, I decided it was time to clean the bugs off the windshield and front of the coach.  As I got on the ladder to clean the windshield, look what I found.
Expletives!!!  We just had the windshield replaced 28 days ago.  The above picture is from the outside and the below picture is from in the inside.  Obviously it kept shattering as we got in and out of the coach.
Our insurance company told us we would have to go back to the place that installed the windshield.  So change of plans.  Minnesota is out.  Back to Elkhart, IN we go.

We left Sunday morning and planned to go to Ottawa, IL and park at a Wal-Mart for the night.  It was supposed to be a 4.5 hour drive and because of construction and rain, it took us a little over 6 hours.  UGH!

The above 3 pictures are from the Wal-Mart parking lot.  The clearing skys made for a beautiful sunset.
          On to Elkhart, IN tomorrow.

Kewaunee & Door Counties in Wisconsin

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

We are as close to Door County as we are going to get.  So today we plan a long day driving up Door County.

We first go through Kewaunee County.
We have been wanting to get to Alaska and BANG we are there.
Oh by the way, this is Alaska, Wisconsin.  Too funny!

Just a short distance up the road was the town of Algoma.  This pictures was taken from the Visitors Center.

This pretty stained glass piece was just outside the front door of Algoma's Visitors Center.

Within 2 miles outside Algoma we crossed into Door County.  We stopped at Renard's Cheese store and got a small bag of white cheese curds to snack on.  Sorry no pictures.

From Algoma we headed north towards Sturgeon Bay on County Road U.  We came across Cave Point County Park.  It was absolutely beautiful.  The following 4 pictures are taken at Cave Point.
If you look hard you can see a rainbow.  When the waves crashed just right, it made a rainbow. The "caves" are made from the crashing waves.

In this area, the waves crash over a shelf of rocks.  Unique looking!

Another rainbow shot.  It is a little clearer in this picture.

The crashing waves are so majestically powerful!!  I stood and watched for a while.

At Jacksonport we saw a farmer's market.  Dusty HAD to stop.  I only bought some red potatoes.  I just got fresh tomatoes from another farmer's market so did not need more.  On with our exploring.

At Baileys Harbor, we found this cute little park with a walkway out to a point close to the city harbor.

Here is the Baileys Harbor city marina. Look in the background right of center and you can see 2 wave kiters.

Tic was able to zoom in.  Above is one of the kiters and below is the other kiter.  Cool!! That looks fascinating to us.

This mural is painted on the side of a building beside the parking lot for Baileys Harbor city marina. This mural and the kiters are the highlights of Baileys Harbor for us.  Onward.

Sister Bay was another must see on our list.  This the main beach in Sister Bay. The park includes the Village Hall with its stage and kitchen, quiet craft (kayak, paddleboards) rental, and a public launch ramp for quiet craft.

This miniature lighthouse was a memorial dedicated to someone who helped Sister Bay grow.  Oops, I can't remember the name and we did not take a picture of the plaque.

It was also recommended to us that we have Swedish pancakes at Al Johnsons where the goats graze on the sod roof.

This is the whole restaurant.  The whole roof is grass sod. There seem to be only 4 goats on the roof and they are all on one side.

We could tell they were all alive.  We even got this one moving around.

We both ordered Swedish pancake with eggs & meat. Above Dusty got the Swedish meatballs. Below Tic got "normal" sausage. The Swedish meatballs were made with lean beef, crackers, eggs & special spices.  They were much leaner than Tic's sausage. Tic finished my Swedish pancake.  We were both stuffed.

As we headed back to our car, which was a few blocks away, we saw this trolley.  There are 12 trolleys with 11 different tours offered all starting in Egg Harbor.

One of our friends from Granbury told us her favorite place was Fish Creek in Door County.  So on down the road to Fish Creek.
These flowers are as big as a salad plate.  I think they are a kind of hibiscus.

The building above and below are on the main street of town.

Above and below are the marina in Fish Creek.

There are beautiful flower gardens all around.

More unique buildings in Fish Creek.

This is one of several yachts we saw here.  Obviously there is money here.

Tic's favorites were these 2 double masted schooners.

Tic got this great picture of one of the unique looking seagulls.

Shortly after we left Fish Creek we found Lautenbachs Orchard Country Store.  We got a quart of unsweetened cherry juice and some no sugar added cherry jam.  The cherry jam is sweetened with grape and pear juice concentrates.  Again, sorry no pictures.

We have had a long day and ready to get home.  It was filled with beauty.  We are so very blessed.
