Sadly we have to leave Valdez today. We have truly enjoyed our stay here. This has been one of our most favorite places so far. We are headed to Gakona, AK only 2.5 hours up the road.
We have stopped at Willow Lake and can see some of the highest peaks in the Wrangell Mountain Range. Below talks about it a little.
This is Mt. Wrangell at an elevation of 14,163 ft.
This is Mt. Drum. While it looks taller that is because it is closer. It is only 12,011 ft elevation.
This is Mt. Blackburn at 16,391 feet elevation. It is the 2nd tallest in the Wrangell range. We did not get to see the tallest in the Wrangell range today. Maybe tomorrow. Unfortunately all the mountains were partially covered in clouds.
We stopped and I got these pictures from the bridge crossing the Klutina River. Below you can see Mt Wrangell in the background.
Both above and below show the view from this great overlook of the Klutina River just a little ways farther up the road.
This is our home for the night. Nice and quiet. The weather was beautiful and we sat outside the rest of the afternoon.
Beautiful way to end a beautiful day!
