Drive to Valdez, AK

Monday, July 31, 2017

OMG, I can hardly believe it is the last day of July.  Time flies when you are having fun!

Today we move to Valdez, AK.  The drive was beautiful! I took so many pictures that the drive to Valdez is going to be a post of its own.

As we left Glennallen, AK we had hoped to see the 3 tall mountains, Mt. Drum elev 12,010 ft, Mt. Wrangell elev 14,164 and Mt. Sanford elev 16,237 ft.  However there was such a thick cloud cover we could not even see the bottom of any of them.

As the day progressed, the clouds started to clear. The closer to Valdez we got the prettier it was!

We took both the above picture and below picture from the same view point. The mountain peaks looks like dinosaur backs.

We started seeing glaciers even though the clouds were still low.

It was such a glorious view to see flowers blooming beside the road and glaciers in the mountains.

The next three pictures are of the Devil's Elbow on the Tsaina River.

We found this cloud formation interesting. It looks like it is rising up from the mountain.

Then we started climbing through Thompson Pass and started seeing glaciers all around. This large glacier is Worthington Glacier. Below is a close up of Worthington

With every corner we kept seeing different glaciers.  We do not have names for most of them. The following several pictures are of the many glaciers we saw along the way into Valdez.

This one looks like it fills a caldera from a past volcano.

Then we saw Bridal Veil Falls. Above is the whole falls. The 2 pictures below are close ups of sections of Bridal Veil Falls.

Just half a mile down the road was this unique rock formation with vegetation growing on the naturally terraced edges.

At the same stop we saw Horsetail Falls.  WOW such awesome beauty God blessed us with today!

These waterfalls were only 18 miles outside Valdez.
