Alamogordo, NM to Timberon, NM

Tuesday, June 12, 2018

Today we moved from just north of Carlsbad, NM to Alamogordo, NM.  With my broken foot and not able to help, I felt bad I had to leave preparing everything for departure. Our drive took about 3.5 hours. It was a pretty drive.
We are staying at Boot Hill RV Resort for the next week. As you can see not too many people here.  It is HOT so most people are not here unless they need to be.

We have an acre of property, I inherited from my Dad, in Timberon, NM. Timberon is about 30 miles south of Cloudcroft, NM.  A couple of years ago a wildfire, started by lightening, went through part of Timberon, specifically our acre.
This is the main lodge at Timberon.  It also houses the HOA office.

Above and below are pictures of 2 "houses" across the street from our lot that were completely destroyed in the fire. Sad!

This is looking at our lot from the "house" across the street. You can see a clear path of the fire.

The pictures above and below show a closer look at the devastation on our acre lot.
We are deciding whether to keep this property or not.  It has very little value since it has been totally burned.

On our drive back to Alamogordo, we pulled over at this "scenic vista".  I sat in the car while Tic walked to the overlook point.
You can see there is a rain storm on the top right.  On the top left is White Sands. Too bad it is so overcast.

We drove into Cloudcroft also.
This is The Lodge Resort & Spa.  Beautiful setting!

Above we are at one end of Burro Avenue looking to the other end. Below is a close-up of a few of the buildings. We had ice cream at one of the shops. We sat outside and ate.
It was 71 degrees, but close to 100 in the valley.

This town is so quaint.  Sorry I couldn't walk around more.

We stopped at the Mexican Canyon Railroad Trestle overlook.  There was a sign saysing the train was also called the Cloud Train. Below is the view from this lookout.

Above and below are each side of the tunnel on Highway 82 between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft. The tunnel is 69 years old and was just reworked last year.  The drive down from Cloudcroft drops over 5000 ft in 16 miles.  That will plug your ears!

This is the view from the Alamogordo side of the tunnel. On a clear day you can see White Sands. However, today the rains are building. They really need the rain so it is good to see. Below is a close-up of the rock layers.

It has been a beautiful drive and day!!
