We arrived early enough on Wednesday June 11 to get to the air museum for a couple of hours. We had been told to allow 2 days.
We walked thru the WWI and WWII areas on Wednesday afternoon. Then returned by 9am on Thursday so we could get on the first shuttle to see the presidential Air Force Ones and other military experimental aircraft.
The planes were very close together. The big plane was the one used by Johnson and Kennedy. They showed us how they modified the plane to carry the casket from Dallas to DC. We also saw the Air Force One that carried President Roosevelt. It had an elevator to bring him from the ground into the plane. It was neat to be able to go on the planes.
Tic is just crazy about radial engines, thus this picture.
This is an Avrocar hover craft developed by the Canadians. However it never was a success. It could not get higher than 3ft off the ground or go faster than 35 mph. Below is a small piece of the write-up.
This is a predecessor to the V-22 Osprey. Look carefully at the picture and you can see the rotors on both sides of the plane.
This is a P-75A interceptor plane. Read below and see it was never successful.
There were so many interesting planes.
This one took off straight up like a rocket. Below is a front view of the same plane.
This is an early glider used as a drone. This is all the pictures I'm going to put on the blog.
