Here is a shot of downtown Dayton as we drove thru.
A little ways north of Dayton the sky started clearing. We only drove 1.5 hours to our next destination.
We arrived at Lakewood Village by 10:30 am. We were told to pick our spot and let them know which site we chose.
This is the site we picked. We had shade and yet still had good over the air TV and cell service. By Saturday afternoon there were a lot more campers here.
There were 2 large ponds. This looks across one of the ponds towards the club house.
This is a part of the other pond. See the canoers?
There must have been 6 or 8 groups of mom and baby ducks and Canadian geese. We took several pictures. I'm just putting one on the blog.
Since we arrived early in the day we had time to go sight seeing. First was the Erie Canal. The next 5 pictures are of the Erie Canal Locke 1.
Just down the street was the Bicycle Museum of America. WOW what an interesting find!
This 1816 Draisine was the world's first bicycle. Notice you walked instead of pedaling.
By 1870 you pedaled the bike. Think about how stiff this ride would have been. No wonder they named it "Boneshaker".
This tricycle is "pedaled" with your hands and feet.
This one had springs in the seat. Where are the handle bars? You steer with your feet.
There was even a bicycle that had 2 gears. Doesn't sound odd, BUT when you pedaled backwards the bike moved forward in low gear. When you peddled forward you went forward in high gear. We only took a picture of the gears.
This is a 1960 pedicab. Good exercise. Several other bikes in the background.
Look how far forward you sit and the pedals & gears are on front wheel.
This is a unique two-person tricycle.
Here is a tandem tricycle. We were told tandems were used a lot for courting/dating. Want to go on a picnic?
Here is a 1949 Whizzer.
There was a whole section designated to Schwinn.
This section was Harley Davidson bicycles. See the sidecar on the bicycle?
This monocycle is one that was ridden in the 2008 Olympic opening ceremonies. Hope I did not over do the bicycles. It was a 3 story museum packed with bicycles. INTERESTING!
Just across the street from the bike museum was this old drug store with an apartment on the second floor and a "viewing" room added. We decided to call it a day and head home.
