Desert Gardens in late April

Friday, April 27, 2016

We are nearing the end of our stay here at Desert Gardens RV Park.  We enjoy the desert, so decided to take a walk around the outer perimeter of the park.

At the beginning of our walk we spotted this Gambel Quail on the roof of a close by shed.  These birds are all over the place here.  They prefer to run on the ground.  If they feel very threatened, they will fly.  This one must have felt threatened.  They are fun to watch.  In a prior blog post, I showed a nest with some of the babies hatched.

The clouds are interesting today!

As we were walking along, we saw a dove scurry out of a cactus and across the ground.  Tic said it was her way of distracting us from her nest.  So.....we looked for a nest.
We found it!  Two very white little eggs in a small nest.  The picture below shows the cactus this nest is in.

Another chain fruit cactus was blooming.

Aren't they pretty!?!

Tic was trying to catch this little bird.  There were a lot of them in this pile of brush.  Neat picture!

The clouds are getting more intriguing.

Tic was able to catch this bird.  It is small and very active.  Hardly sits still.

This saguaro cactus has more arms than most saguaro.

Many of the saguaro have flowers on the ends of the arms.

This cactus wren is about to dip his head into this flower to suck its nectar.  See below.
Tic got some fantastic pictures.  Cool!!!

This bird does not look like the cactus wren we have seen before. We did not see this bird sucking any nectar, but it is a pretty bird!  We feel so blessed to see so much of God's creations.

This is another view of the same bird from the picture just above.

This is the saguaro the little bird above was on.

There are also lots of these little ground squirrels around.  The desert is so interesting.
