Sunday, October 2, 2016

Today we are headed to the 20th Annual Mid-Missouri Horse, Mule, & Ox Farming & Historical Crafts Days.
The people that put the festival on asked us to put all our pictures on our blogWe gave them the blog URL.

Above the man is plowing the field.  Notice he is sitting on a seat.

We did not get a picture of another man plowing with a plow like these.

Some teens got the opportunity to drive a plow team.

This team of mules are grinding corn to be used for feed.

There was some food and drinks for sale.

You've got to have strong legs to turn wood using a foot pedal.  This man told us the leg he stood on got tired faster than the leg he pedaled with.

This woman played the banjo, dolcemer and mandolin.

Hand-made baskets made of willow branches.

This lady made these brooms.

This lady raises sheep, shears them and spins her own wool.  She dies the wool colors using natural items.

Hand-made quilts.  All hand-made. No sewing machine used.

Teepee of canvas.  Looked like a fire had been inside.

This display was men demostrating the art of using rocks to build walls for houses etc.  This little girl was trying to get this stack of rocks to stay in balance.

Fresh apple cider is being pressed.  Free samples were given away.

This is a horse-drawn potato thrower.  There are tines in the front that rotate and throw the potatoes out of the ground then someone picks them up.

This video is of them using a horse powered sorghum cane press.  After the got 5 gallons of juice, they boiled it for at least 6 hours running a strainer through it as stuff came to the top.

Demonstrating a small loom.  She had lots of scarfs for sale. Below is her booth.

Here they are demonstrating loading logs on a wagon using mules.

This 18 yr old trained these 2 horses and has been riding in local shows for 3 years now.

Here's a short video showing her riding.  After she stopped them they took off in a trot. It was fun to watch.

Home-made jellies of all sorts.  I tried orange jalapeno, but I liked the raspberry jalapeno I purchased better.

This group was cooking brats, turkey legs, hamburgers, brisket, & pork. None of us were hungry so did not buy anything.

This was on the back of Carl's cow trailer.  Carl was a character.  He even showed Tic about shoeing oxen.
