Natural Bridge in Arkansas

Tuesday, October 18, 2016 - Part 1

Today we have 2 special places to go.  This post will be about our first stop at the Natural Bridge near Clinton, AR.

These are a few trees changing colors.  We have not seen a lot of it.  The locals tell us that it has been so dry here that the leaves are just dying and falling off rather than changing colors then falling off.

We made it to the Natural Bridge. The cabin was one of 2 original cabins on these grounds.  The outside was resealed and a new roof put on.  See the picture below for a close-up of the round rock.
We were told that many round rocks like this one have come up out of the ground in Prim, AR.  The round rocks are called a geological phenomenon.

This replica of a chuck wagon was on display.

This is their display of a local moonshine still.  Moonshine used to be prolific in the Ozarks.

The following four pictures show the collection of old items on display in the 2nd cabin.  Some of the items were unusual.

Apparently turpentining was prominent in this area.  The tree bark above is carved into the V shapes to guide the flow of the fluid. See the history below.

This natural bridge is made of sandstone.  Most natural bridges are made of limestone and stronger.  This one is getting fragile and people are no longer allowed on it.  This is as close as we could get.

On a walking trail in the park we came to this cave.  It is big enough for a couple of picnic tables placed not close together.

Another cave we found on our walk.  This was a fascinating area. We are glad we came.  Now, on to our next adventure.
