Eureka Springs, AR

Sunday, October 9, 2016

We were told we must see the Thorncrown Chapel just outside Eureka Springs, AR.  It is a little over an hour drive from Branson where we are currently.  We decided to wait to go see it until today, Sunday so we could attend a service there also.

The chapel is a magnificent wooden structure containing 425 windows and over 6,000 square feet of glass. This the best picture of the whole church located in the woods.  Truly glorious!

This is looking up from the front door of the church.

Looking down one side of the church

From inside the church sitting in the pew looking up.  The framing is magnificent!  Sitting in the pews looking out the windows at the forest is truly a spiritual feeling.
As remarkable as this structure is, we were also amazed at the clarity of the windows.  Spotless, no streaks; it was as if there was no glass at all, but we knew better because we could see reflections.

This is a separate building called the Worship Center.  It was not open today.  To learn more about this place google Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, AR.

After church, we went into Eureka Springs to find something to eat and to walk around.  Where we ate was nothing special so no pictures.  All the pictures below are the ones I liked the best.  They show the different architecture of the town.

Taken from the courthouse steps on Main Street.

This was taken from an elevated crosswalk that crossed over Main Street.
This corner building looks like it could be at home in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
This mural is about the first 100 years of Eureka Springs.

 This is the county courthouse.

Evidently, trolley tours are available, however, we did not have the parking meter time to be able to take the tour.

No signage on this log cabin located on Main Street
Bordello from the past?
Quaint little town, meaning narrow roads, limited parking, large crowds, T-shirt shops and booze bars.  But the architecture and history make this a worthwhile visit.  We finally found parking, and even on a Sunday had to pump quarters to pay for our parking, thus our time was limited and we did not get the history on these places.  We will definitely have to visit again when we can spend more time.
