Today we went to Hermann, MO with some new friends we met at the RV park. Hermann is a quaint little German town.
The signs above and below talk about Hermann.
Both Amtrak and freight trains run through Hermann on a regular basis.
You can see one of the trolleys in the background. None were running today. Octoberfest starts tomorrow, but we wanted to see the town without all the crowds so came early.
Obviously City Hall and the Fire Station have moved. They are refurbishing it now.
The White House Hotel was built in 1868 and is just across the street from the railroad tracks which are next to the Missouri River. The White House is now a bed and breakfast. It is also a museum full of artifacts and the building has been used to make several movies.
The Concert Hall was built in 1878. It is no longer used as a concert hall, but houses a pub on the lower floor.
Another building with interesting architecture.
This is the Hermann Wurst Haus selling and serving mostly German style meats.
Kevin, Theresa and Dusty are tasting several kinds of bratwursts. They were all too greasy for Dusty.
You could also get cheeses and other deli items at Wurst Haus.
As you can tell this old mill is now a restaurant.
Of course I had to include some of the beautiful flowers we found in Hermann.
I really liked the variegated flowers.
To our surprise Gasconade County and in surrounding counties we saw many vineyards. This is part of Stone Hill Winery in Hermann.
