Hope AK

Friday, July 14, 2017

Today is an overcast day again.  We decided to drive to Hope AK a little out of the way old mining town.

We stopped at the 6 Mile Creek Rest Area.  This is the bridge that goes over 6 Mile Creek.

The little grey spot in the middle back of the picture is 6 Mile Creek.  We are truly feeling blessed and are enjoying our travels.

Hope was founded and a trading center before Anchorage existed, and Alaska's first gold rush town. There are many of the original buildings.

This was the post office built in 1902.

This house and barn were built in 1916. The house is a private residence and the barn is an art gallery.

The Hope School was built in 1902.  The right side of the building is the library.

This car was in front of a building that had a sign "Antique Auto Mushers of Alaska". The pictures showed sled dogs pulling antique cars.  I bet that would be fun to watch.

On Main Street (The Historical Part of town) here is the Social Hall built in 1902.

Above and below are people fly fishing.
This creek flows into the Turnagain Arm.  Hope is on the opposite side of Turnagain Arm from where our previous posts were.

OMG Gorgeous!!  The red dot is a man fishing at the Turnagain Arm shore.

A little of the surrounding mountains.

This young man was excited because this was his first catch fly fishing.

Love the purple door on this private residence.

Granite Creek Guard Station.

These pictures show Columbines in a couple of different colors. There were more colors. I just put 2 pictures in.

This is the construction of the museum.  The technique of the spliced ends was brought to Hope by a Swedish man.

There were all kinds of beautiful flowers around the museum.

One of the old pieces of equipment was this horse drawn road grader.

On our way back home we stopped at a wood art gallery.
This beautiful log building was the art gallery.

The following pictures are some chainsaw carvings on display outside.

The bowl below was really smooth.  Incredible use of a tree burl.

Even the stairs inside the building were stunning!

Good thing we cannot collect "stuff"!  They had a lots of beautiful pictures of local animals and local sights including the aurora borealis.
