Valley of Fire - Day 2

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

Last evening we met a young couple from Holland traveling in a rented RV for 4 weeks.  This was their first night with the RV and their first time to ever have an RV.  They were traveling with their 2 1/2 year old son.  It was fun getting to know them a little.  They are traveling with no reservations anywhere.  We pray they have a wonderful journey.

More exploring for us today!

There are actually 7 separate rock formations.  Below are 2 of the 7.

Can you see the Rock "Cabins" in the bottom right of the picture above.

Here are the "Cabins" up close.

These petroglyphs are on the walls behind the cabins.

This formation is named "The Elephant".

Some of the holes are large enough to stand in.

Tic saw these birds while sitting on the back porch of the visitors center.

These large formations are out back of the visitors center also.

The following pictures are of more unusual rock formations here at Valley of Fire.

These look like pimples on the large rocks.

This is called Windstone Arch, a non-advertised feature in the park.  No signs, but if you ask at the visitor's center, they will tell you approximately where to search for it.  The man from the Netherlands that we met had seen this feature on the Internet, and wanted to find it to photograph it for himself.

We have really enjoyed exploring this area during the day and viewing the dark skies at night.

Tomorrow we head to Zion National Park.

  1. We may have waved to each other in the park. We were there May 1-5. We have a Bighorn fiver and a silver F-350. We really enjoyed this park. Fist time we got to see bighorn sheep in the wild.
