Zion National Park Trip 2

Tuesday, May 9, 2017

Today we are taking the Woodyards to Zion.  We have packed our lunch and plan on picnicing on this day even if it is slightly overcast.

We started our excursion through Zion by taking the drive through the 1 mile tunnel.  As we drove through the tunnel, Tic got this picture of one of the 5 openings created as they dug the tunnel.  The tunnel is 13.1 ft tall at the highest point.  Tour buses and RVs can go through the tunnel, but traffic is stopped in one direction so they can travel in the middle of the tunnel.  There is a $15 dollar fee for this privilege.

Dave, Roxanne and I had to get closer to get our pictures.

The varying layers of colors and thickness were intriging!

Then there are these massive walls. OMG!!

This is the Virgin River that cut all these canyons.

Superwoman holding up this boulder with only one hand!

The flowers above and below were growing out of the rocks along one of several "weeping" walls in the park.

See what looks like rain falling.  This is actually water weeping out of the rocks.

More magnificent walls and formations.

If I remember correctly, this is called the Great White Throne.

Lots of beauty!  We had a great day even if it was a little overcast.
