Bakersfield, CA

Sunday, May 3, 2015

This morning, after watching NSBC church over the Internet, we left Barstow and headed to Bakersfield.

This beautiful view is as we were leaving Barstow.  Pretty desolate here.  It stayed that way until we got near Tehachapi where we crossed a very dry mountain range.
As you can see, even the grass was brown.  We did get up to about 4000 ft elevation.

Here we are coming down a pretty steep grade into a valley where crops were growing.
Looks like various types of crops.  Kind of pretty.  Well, the above pictures are the highlights of our trip today.  At least we are in a location where there are major chain grocers and we can finally restock on fresh fruit and veggies.  Good time to catch up on the mundane too, like getting our laundry done.  Oh boy!

This is where we are staying for the night.  Why is it many RV parks have palm trees?  We arrived about noon and it is hot.

The overnight parking is almost empty.  There are 2 other RVs that cannot be seen in this picture and that is it.  I think there are about 30 parking sites.
It is about 98 degrees so we wanted 50amp.  As you can tell, the sites are pretty level.  All sites have 30 & 50 amp, water, sewer & cable.  The train is just across the street.  The train does not have to cross a street so it does not have to blow its horn.  With the air conditioners on we can't really hear it.  There have already been 2 trains and it is only 4:30pm.

We are leaving in the morning to head to Tulare, CA which is close to Sequoia National Park.

QUESTION: Why does it only cost 10 cents to call Hell from Bakersfield?
    ANSWER: It's a local call.
