Susanville, CA

Saturday, May 23, 2015

Today we plan to explore the local area.  Susanville is the largest town around.  In a visitors guide there was a write-up talking about all the murals around town including the location for each.  We decided to check it out. There are lots of mural and several are very large.

This is Isaac Roop & his wife, the founders of Susanville.

This picture and the one below are pictures of old Main Street.

As the mural says, this is titled "Our Ancestors, Our Future".

This is titled "Mr Eastman" who chronicled the early part of the century in Susanville.

Susanville is in Lassen County.  Cattle ranching is big here.  This mural is comprised of several photos given to the artist that painted this mural.

This mural was created to honor the women of Susanville.

This mural is in obvious need of repair.  It represents logging with big wheels.  Look at the size of the log.

The mural below was on 2 walls of the Pioneer Saloon, so to get the whole mural, Tic had to take 5 pictures. This mural is titled "History of Lassen".

Tic tried a panoramic of this but it was so small you could not see it well enough so I put all 5 individual pictures in.

This is titled "Dad Popcorn" representing William Vellenworth who sold popcorn from his popcorn wagon between 1918 & 1931.

This mural is titled "History of Honey Lake Valley".

Flower alert!  As we walked around town we saw these flowers and I had to have pictures.

I get awed by God's glory!!!

Alright back to murals.  I'm almost done with murals.

The above 3 pictures show most of the largest mural in town.  It goes all the way down one side of this grocery store and wraps around the front a little.  I only put 3 of the 6 pictures Tic took.  Yes, you are welcome.

This mural is on the side of the Kopper Kettle Cafe.  We found it as we stopped to fuel the Jeep before going to Lassen National Park.

This is the last mural we found.  Hope you weren't too bored.  I found it interesting that one little town had so many murals.

See the next post for the remainder of this day.  Lassen National Park is another posting.
