Tulare County Crops

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Today on our way back to the Kings Canyon, I decided to take pictures of some of the various crops we saw growing.

We barely got started on our adventure for the day when I saw a fruit stand selling fresh picked cherries.  I had to stop.  The man told us they cherries he was selling today had been picked the day before.  Yum Yum fresh picked cherries.
We got this big bag of cherries for $8.  They are delicious!

Tic decided to take this picture from the underside of the trees, showing how the orchard was planted.  Cool view.

This is the underside of grapevines.  These vines are fairly well developed.  We have seen many new vineyards just starting.

Here are the grapes as they look now.  It is very early in the season.  The grapes won't be ready for a couple of months.

This is an olive tree.  They are a light green.  There were lots of olives dried up on the ground.  Then we started seeing a few olives dried in the tree.
Here is one of the dried olives.  Tic used his knife to slice it.  Smelling the dried fruit is how we determined it was an olive.  Olives are a big crop in the area, so we are not sure why this field was allowed to dry out.

I pulled over again.  See the picture below.
Here's the growing fruit.  Looks like a peach only smaller.  Maybe an apricot?  In researching nut trees, this could be an almond tree. We really have no idea, but do know almonds are a big crop in this area.

Here's a grove of orange trees.  There are still lots of oranges being picked.

We saw small tree looking plants with reddish somethings.  I pulled over again!!
It turned out that the reddish "somethings" were flowers.  This is a close up.  We have no idea what kind of fruit or nut this will produce.  Anyone know what crop this will produce?  If you do, comment or e-mail me.

Tic is wanting to get to our destination so this is the last stop for checking out crops.  See my next post.
