Needles, CA

Friday, May 1, 2015

Today we are heading to Needles, CA as a one night stop over on our way to Sequoia National Park.  When we got up this morning it was 50 degrees and the high was supposed to be mid 70's today in Williams, AZ near the Grand Canyon.

We know we are going to be headed to a lower elevation.  This was our first big down hill with the valley in view.
We came down another hill and saw these 5 windmills.  Then we got into the desert again.

The I-40 interstate was really rough.  We could not believe that the speed limit was 75 when the road was in such bad condition.  This picture is me trying to get a picture of the "Welcome to California" sign, but it was so bumpy this is the best picture I got.  Ha Ha

This is our site at the Northshore RV Resort in Needles, CA.  It was 100 degrees when we arrived and reached 103 degrees per the Jeep by about 4pm. Way too hot for us.  We only have 30amp and can only run one air conditioner because of that. Northshore is a nice place.  We have shade, everything is paved and the sites are fairly level. We are just 2 levels from the Colorado river.
This is the front of the Activity Center.  On the backside there is access to the river.  There is a covered spa and a pool that is partly covered.

Here is the spa and pool.  It was so hot that we decided to take a dip.  It was refreshing.
These pretty flowers were on the back side of the Activity Center.

This is the backside of the Activity Center.

This is the back side.  The walkway just before the start of the palm trees goes down to the river.
Here we are walking down to the floating dock.  We took our shoes and socks off and soaked our feet in the cold water.  It was a little cold at first but we got used to it.  It amazed us how fast the current was.
The boat in this short video did not have its engine running.  It was drifting with the current.

We decided to go get our swim suits on and take a dip.  After that we decided to go to the grocery store and buy a salad or something cool for dinner.  To our surprise, there is not even one grocery store in Needles, CA.  The closest one is 20 miles away, so we decided to eat out.

After searching trip advisor, we decided to go to Wagon Wheel.

This mural and the one below were on the side of the building.
Oh and in case you cannot tell, we are on another part of Route 66.

Dinner was good.  We had the all you can eat fish (cod) and chips. Of course we had to have dessert first.  We shared a bread pudding that was one of the best we have had anywhere.

About 7pm it looked like it had cooled off a bit so we decided to go to the river's edge and watch the activity.  However, it was still hot AND the breeze had died.  The mosquitoes were out.  We were not happy campers.

Tic did get a picture of the moon up over the river before we headed back to our mobile condo.

Oh well, I had a nice thought but forgot I was very near the Mojave Desert and it is HOT here.

Tomorrow we head for Newberry Mountain RV Park in Newberry Springs, CA for one night.
We should have 50 amp available so we can run both A/Cs.  Whew!
