South Lake Tahoe, CA

Sunday, May 17, 2015

Today we leave Isleton, CA and go to South Lake Tahoe, CA.
It is nice this morning, but it is supposed to rain in Lake Tahoe this afternoon.

We went through Sacramento, CA.  The freeway was 4-6 lanes wide and traffic was crazy.  We went from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe via state highway 50.  It was a beautiful drive up and over Luther Pass at 7735 ft elevation.  It started lightly raining about 20-25 miles from South Lake Tahoe, but nothing serious.  The mountain grades slowed us down more than the rain.

We arrived at Tahoe Valley RV Resort about 1:30 pm.  It was lightly sprinkling so we did not fully hook up.  We just connected electric.
This is our parking site.  Nice and large.  It is mostly level.  The sites are very sandy.  Because it was so wet, we did track a lot of sand and dirt into the coach.  I mopped and vacuumed 3 times in 2 days.

We met friends from Weatherford, TX.  They are staying at a resort in South Lake Tahoe about 6 miles from our campground.  We will spend most of our four days with them.

This is the resort where our friends are staying.  They have a nice 1 bedroom suite with living area, dining area and kitchen.

This was near the entrance to the resort.  I liked it so we have a picture.
There was a beach area at the end of the parking lot.  There was a restaurant just at the edge of the parking lot.  This beautiful statue was near the restaurant.

The next morning the four of us walked to the beach.
This is one of the docks people can walk out on at the beach.

See the snow capped mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe?  It is sooooo beautiful!
As we started out the dock, we saw this group of Canadian geese and babies.  The little ones were still very fuzzy.
Some people came walking onto the beach and the geese took off.  Aren't those babies cute?!?
Here I was taking a picture of our friends, Dave & Roxanne.  Tic called my name then took a picture of us.  In this picture you can see the bottom of the lake.  The water is shallow here.  However, we read that a white dinner plate at 70 feet below can be seen from the surface.

One evening we got the blessing of this beautiful sunset.  This is the view from their balcony.

The last day we were there, the fire department had a drill at this resort.  We had been out and when we returned we saw the fire trucks and firemen all around. We asked the firemen if there had been a fire.  We were glad to hear it was just a drill!!

We had fun with our friends.  See the next 2 posts to see our adventures.
