The four of us are going to Oceanside today. My sister needs to run a short errand, so we decided to go and see another part of the California coast.
We found this long public pier so parked and walked out to the end.
People watching is quite entertaining in California. And there was lots to watch here.
This sailboat was a long ways out. Tic was able to zoom in and get this.
There were several surfers. Tic got this one just after he got up.
This pelican was sleeping on the railing. He looks so pretty.
When he walked back from the end of the pier he was awake. Majestic isn't he.
This is looking back from the pier at a huge hotel on the shore.
Next we are off to the Gliderport in La Jolla, CA. We brought our lunch and plan to picnic while we watch.
Both the picture above and below are some people learning about gliding.
This is being done at a cliff beside the ocean.
There are lots of techniques to taking off and landing. You can see one person just took off.
Here are two going at the same time. They are flying in opposite directions.
They have a bag on their back and as they take off they sit back in the bag.
The person above sits more upright than the person below. I'm not sure if it is the way the person sits or if it is the type of bag.
This guy has an additional bag that goes around his legs all the way to his feet. We have no idea what that does for him.
A man was flying his model plane in the same area the gliders were flying. It did not seem to bother the gliders.
I know this is slightly blurry, but I wanted to show two people flying tandem. The person in front is the passenger and is a young boy probably 10ish.
This was a beautiful place to watch the gliders and have our lunch.
Our next adventure is in the next post.
