Travel from Yuma, AZ to San Diego, CA

Friday, March 11, 2016

Today we are dropping the coach off to have new flooring installed and some cabinets reworked.  So while this is being done, we are going to San Diego, CA to visit with my sister and family.  We have not been to see them in California since they moved out there many years ago.

The California border is not far from Yuma.  We have never been on this part of I-8 before.

We went through some huge sand dunes.  Then drove through some mountains.

We went from 138 ft elevation in Yuma, AZ to a little over 4500 ft elevation crossing these mountains. The next 6 pictures show how rocky these mountains were.  It was unusual to us.

It was not long after getting out of the mountains that we entered San Diego, CA.

My sister lives near the beach.  Look at all the smog.

Tic took this picture holding the camera out the window while at a stop light.

This is looking down the street close to my sister's place.

This is where my sister lives.  Notice there is no smog!  We are grateful for that.

This is the apartment complex entrance.  My sister reserved the guest apartment for us.  It is just under the stairs on the right.  It is completely furnished and really nice!  What a treat!

The apartment is only 3 blocks from the ocean and the San Diego Boardwalk.

This pier is open to the public.  The little cottages are for rent.  The waves crash on the support piers and shake the whole pier.  We walked to the end of the pier and watched some young men surfing.

This one came close to the pier as he was paddling out.

The beach seemed to have a lot of seaweed, but it did not bother anyone.  Isn't this a beautiful view?

This is the end of that long pier with the waves crashing in on it.  The forces of the waves seemed strong yet this pier has been here for a while.
