Sunday, June 7, 2015 Day 3
Today we took it easy. We were both feeling tired and it is an overcast day. The only thing we plan to do is drive into Bend and go to the store.
On the way to Bend we notice a fire.
This is what the smoke looked like as we got close.
After we got home we learned this was a controlled burn.
The smoke from the burn had blown down to where we were and was thick, so no good sunset pictures.
Monday, June 8, 2015 Day 4
Today we decided to take the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway north out of Bend westward then south and back to La Pine.
This is Mount Bachelor. There are several snow capped peaks on this drive.
These mountains are called 3 Sisters Peaks and Broken Top Mountain in the foreground to the right. Broken Top is an extinct volcano.
Here we are looking at Mt. Bachelor again, this time from Dutch Flat which has this creek running through it. So peaceful!
This is Sparks Lake.
Tic walked down to the waters edge here at Devils Lake.
I also liked this view of Devils Lake.
If I remember correctly this is Elk Lake or it could be Lava Lakes.
Here is another lake along our drive. There are about 11 lakes along this scenic byway. This was Crane Prairie Reservoir. We stopped and had lunch here.
While we were sitting and enjoying the weather and view, this large white pelican swam by.
Then this pretty mallard flew in and swam around a little bit before he took off again.
Then the best of all. I spotted a bald eagle flying near the other side of the lake. Tic was able to zoom in and get this picture after he landed in the top of this tree.
This view is about half zoomed.
This view is not zoomed at all. You can barely see the eagle in the top of the tallest tree in the middle of the picture. Just wanted you to see how far away the eagle actually was. We were blessed to see the eagle swoop down and grab a fish with his talons. He flew off with the fish and went into the trees.
This is the Crane Prairie Dam releasing some water downstream.
This is looking back towards the reservoir from the dam.
The last lake we stopped at was Wickiup Reservoir.
This is one of the boat ramps at Wickiup Reservoir. See the jet skis in the background? Headed home after this.
WOW! Isn't tonight's sunset spectacular?!
Here is the view just a little later. We are truly blessed! Thank you Lord!!!
