Lincoln, OR Day 6

Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Today is a beautifully sunny day.  Tic woke up early and saw how beautiful it was.  He woke me and said it is time to be driving again.

We knew it was early in the day and high tide was not going to be until about 2:30 pm, but it was too beautiful to stay home.  Tic thought there was a lighthouse we had not stopped at in our drives southward and wanted to go see it.

We are in Newport again and saw this unusual shoreline.
Look how the water had worn a "bowl" shape in the rock. We have been constantly reminded how powerful water is.

At the next pullout, we could look back at the previous spot above and see more of the shoreline.  This is zoomed in.
This picture is not zoomed in.  I love the crashing waves in this little cove and the shoreline from previous is visible also.

We stopped at several pullouts just to see the waves crashing on the rocks.  Look how these swirl.

This is looking southward down the coastline.  No beach here; just rocks and more swirling water.

Since we were in the area, we went back to Yaquina Head and checked on the baby peregrine.  Here are 3 in the nest.  We watched the 4th one fly out a little ways.
Tic found the 4th one.  Here he is just a little ways away.

Off down the road again.

We found the turn out for the missed lighthouse.  It is called the Yaquina Bay Historic Lighthouse.
It only operated from 1871-1874.  Once the Yaquina Head lighthouse opened, this one closed.  It has been restored and the living quarters inside are very well restored!

This is the bridge that crosses Yaquina Bay.  We could see this from the parking lot for the lighthouse.

This was our view from the Jeep where we parked.  See the two jetties?  Per the information boards, these are to help keep the channel into the harbor clear.

We decided this was so pretty that we would have our lunch here.  We sat and ate while watching people walking on the beach and flying kites on the beach.

After we ate, we drove around inside the bay.  This was our first view of the harbor.

We headed to Devil's Punchbowl to see how it looked near high tide.
It is about 1.5 hr before high tide.  There is more water in it, but the waves are not making any spectacular crashes.

This is a close up of the waves casually flowing out.

Tic got this picture from the Devil's Punchbowl Viewpoint.  These seals are enjoying the sunshine.

Here is my flower picture for today.  A pretty little wild rose.

We are headed home now.

Here we are back in Newport at the same spot as the first picture in this post.  The tide is close to high tide.  See the small upside down V shape in the rock on the far right side of the picture?  See the picture below.
We noticed as the bigger waves came in, they would "blow" out of the hole.  I happened to catch this one.

When we got home, Tic decided it was nap time for him so I went walking around the RV park.  I found some people on the fishing dock and visited a short bit. One man was parking his fishing boat and the other man was from the coach parked next to us.  I sat outside our neighbor's coach and visited with him (his wife had gone into town) while Tic was sleeping.  Then the man with the boat came by and offered to take Ray and I up river to see the homes from the river side.

During our river ride I saw seal, 3 osprey nests and ducks.
I did manage to get this picture of one mother with her babies.  Tis the season.
